How Zivid-powered vision brought life to robots across the show floor.
Automatica 2025 was nothing short of electrifying. From cutting-edge robotics to smart vision-guided systems, the show floor was packed with innovation, and we were thrilled to see so many demos powered by Zivid 3D cameras.
From bin picking and surface finishing to surgical assistance and intralogistics, the variety of applications was stunning. We couldn’t possibly capture everything, but here’s our curated "best of"—a top 10 roundup of the most exciting Zivid-powered robotic demos we spotted this year.
🎥 Watch the video below for a quick tour of all the action in just 3 minutes:
Application: Pick and place
In this application, powered by Fizyr's software, a Yaskawa robot empties trays and feeds a Meiko industrial dishwasher using Zivid 3D vision. A clean and precise demonstration of robotics in action.
Application: Surface polishing
An impressive metallic part finishing demo, showing how Zivid’s accurate point clouds support smooth and consistent finishing paths thanks to Wandelbots' technology.
Application: Battery inspection & welding
Two standout demos from VMT this year: one identifying and inspecting batteries, the other tracing a welding path on a big manufacturing part.
Application: Bin picking
The UR cobot locates and poses colorful parts from a bin using Zivid cameras, highlighting fast detection and reliable grasping.
Application: Nurse robot
The Technical University of Munich showed an impressive robot nurse that hands instruments to the doctor during operations. The 3D camera detects tools and hands them to a human operator—vision precision meets healthcare robotics.
Application: Intralogistics piece picking
Siemens masters seamless piece picking of various part types—including transparent and cardboard items—showcasing the versatility of 3D vision for intralogistics operations.
Application: Object detection & pick
The powerful Schmalz vacuum picks white wooden plates stacked together and put them on a conveyor belt one by one. This shows how Zivid handles challenging low-contrast surfaces and edges.
Application: Automatic surface finishing
The EyeT+ Adapt Finishing system generates robotic toolpaths for surface finishing tasks on a complex part using 3D data from Zivid cameras.
Application: Bin picking
With Pickit 3.5, metallic parts from manufacturing bins are picked and placed on a conveyor for reliable performance in high-clutter scenes.
Application: Bin picking for palletizing
Entire bins are picked up and placed so Zivid cameras can scan their contents—a creative twist from inos Automation on bin picking before the palletizing process.
And because there were more than 10 Zivid demos at Automatica, here are a few more to complete this best of:
Roboception: Capturing small parts with precision using Zivid vision combined with smart recognition software.
Hanwha Group: Stacked box depalletizing with vision-guided pick-and-place on a conveyor.
Q-Fin Quality Finishing Machines: Eye Q robot loads metallic parts into a CNC machine with reliable detection and positioning.
What stood out at Automatica wasn’t just the number of demos using Zivid—it was the diversity of them. From healthcare to logistics, surface finishing to complex bin picking, Zivid’s 3D cameras are enabling smarter automation across industries.
We’re proud to support our partners in making robot cells more accurate, scalable, and efficient.
