Zivid has just unveiled the Zivid 3 XL250, the first model in our brand-new Zivid 3 series — and our second major product launch in less than a year. Yet another example of our dedication to drive and lead the innovation in the 3D machine vision industry.
Having listened to our customers’ needs intently, we understood that the current range of 3D cameras that were on offer to them simply was not cutting it. They need a camera that could work at a distance on the larger scenes, in challenging temperatures, and in ambient lighting. They want a camera that could reliably capture high-fidelity point clouds on anything that they presented to it, from highly stacked mixed-SKU pallets in warehousing to large bins full of shiny reflective parts in factory bin picking. Robotic automation is facing rapid developments in the complexity and variation of parts to be handled; many of these scenarios have been considered extremely challenging to pick reliably. They needed a long-range 3D camera that did it all effortlessly, so we have brought them Zivid 3 to do just that.

Zivid 3 XL250 captures complete high-accuracy point clouds on the majority of items in the industry.
The Zivid 3 XL250 is more than just an upgrade — it’s a natural evolution. It builds on the proven performance of the Zivid 2+ R series, while introducing a suite of new features that take industrial 3D imaging to the next level. The result? A powerful, robust, and flexible camera that meets the demands of modern automation in warehousing and manufacturing.
Zivid 3 is designed to work with bigger robots doing high-precision tasks. For those who want to pick the most challenging items found in factory situations, it is an ideal choice. The large FOV allows this camera to comfortably cover large bins and large parts and reliably capture clean, correct, and complete point clouds on shiny metal parts, parts coated in oils or grease, and shiny black objects. Zivid 3 opens up the possibility of large robotic bin-picking stations that can reliably deal with anything.
Low noise point clouds on shiny metallic parts that are free of interreflections.
Reliable and complete point clouds on the most reflective surfaces.
While the Zivid 3 XL250 can handle a wide range of large-area 3D applications, robotic depalletizing is a particular area where it truly shines.
Working closely with some of the industry leaders in logistics and warehousing, we learned that their current 3D cameras were just not good enough to meet their needs, and what they needed was a 3D camera system that provides:
These insights directly shaped the design of the Zivid 3 XL250. During the last few months, Zivid 3 XL250 has been in the hands of leading customers who have been impressed with what it can do.
“This 3D camera allows us to detect items within a few millimeters. We can handle items successfully without fail, pushing the boundary beyond 99.9% performance. “
- Floris Gaisser, computer Vision team lead at Mujin
Complex mixed-SKU pallets are an easy job for Zivid 3.
Industrial 3D cameras operate in some of the toughest environments, which can be hot, cold, and dirty places with vibration and bumps, a part of everyday life. In a typical warehouse, pallets arrive on trucks that back up to large loading bays. As the doors open, sunlight floods in and temperatures shift rapidly — from summer highs of +30°C to winter lows of -15°C in places like Norway. These environmental changes can wreak havoc on less capable vision systems.
We have said before that 3D cameras are very highly tuned pieces of equipment that measure in millimeters. To put it bluntly, they don’t much like environmental changes. If a 3D camera is not designed to correct its calibration in the face of these conditions, all measurements start to go off track. What this will mean is that as large, powerful robots start to work farther away from the camera at the bottom of the pallet, the measurement errors become progressively more acute. The robots start to crash into items often resulting in damaged goods.
The Zivid 3 XL250 was designed to thrive in these fluctuating conditions, maintaining calibration, accuracy, and performance no matter the temperature or lighting.
Pallets come in every shape, size, and material — from neatly stacked cardboard boxes to uneven piles of metallic, plastic, or reflective goods. In industries like food and beverage, where packaging includes shiny cans, transparent bottles, and plastic-wrapped bundles, the challenges multiply.
A successful depalletizing solution needs a 3D camera that can capture every surface, edge, and gap with precision. The Zivid 3 XL250 delivers exactly that — ensuring accurate detection, reduced mispicks, and smooth, damage-free handling.
Shiny and transparent items and small millimeter gaps are rendered with clarity and completeness.
Even on pallets stacked up to 2.5 meters high, the Zivid 3 XL250 maintains exceptional millimeter-level accuracy throughout the entire working volume. Its superb point cloud quality ensures precise picks from top to bottom of the pallet — minimizing errors, protecting goods, and boosting operational efficiency.
Depalletizing robots operate fast — with pick cycles approaching five seconds in some applications. The Zivid 3 XL250 keeps pace effortlessly, capturing high-resolution 3D data in just 350 milliseconds on most items (and under 500 ms for even the most challenging surfaces). It’s designed to keep your automation running smoothly and efficiently.
Packaging trends are evolving. While cardboard boxes remain common, new materials like transparent plastics and bioplastics are becoming widespread. These shiny, reflective, or translucent surfaces can challenge lesser vision systems — but not for the Zivid 3 XL250.
Its powerful, structured light system and advanced imaging technology ensure accurate, reliable point clouds across all packaging types. And as bioplastic packaging use grows — forecasted to exceed 20% of global logistics packaging by 2035 — the need for such capability will only increase.
Through close collaboration with our customers, we know their ability to handle this growth in logistics is a paramount concern.
Ease of use has always been a Zivid hallmark, and the Zivid 3 XL250 continues that tradition:
If you’ve used a Zivid camera before, you’ll feel right at home. If you’re new to Zivid, you’ll be amazed by how simple professional-grade 3D vision can be.
The Zivid 3 XL250 isn’t just a high-resolution 8-megapixel 3D camera — it’s also a top-tier 8-megapixel 2D camera with synchronized data capture for seamless 3D-2D alignment. Its integrated structured light system provides illumination powerful enough for distances beyond 4.5 meters, eliminating the need for external lighting or multiple cameras.
As with all our new cameras, we have an accompanying SDK so that it works straight out of the box. But Zivid SDKs are about delivering extra value. With Zivid SDK 2.17, there is full Zivid 3 support and then a bunch of other nice things to make your life easier and more productive.
Yes, it even reads barcodes! In certain situations, Zivid 3 XL250 can even read barcodes, reducing system complexity and hardware costs. One device, multiple functions — that’s smart integration done right.
Zivid 3 XL 250 can read the most common barcodes in logistics.
